Friends of Atupele Muluzi urges UDF leader to pursue lead role in any election alliance

A group named Friends of Atupele Muluzi has called on United Democratic Front (UDF) President Atupele Muluzi not to accept a secondary position in any alliance the party may join ahead of the 2025 elections. Speaking at a press briefing in Lilongwe on Friday, the group’s Secretary General, Stain Chidothe, emphasized that they would only support alliances in which Muluzi is recognized as the primary candidate.

“We can only support an alliance where Atupele Muluzi is positioned as the torchbearer,” Chidothe stated, affirming the group’s commitment to seeing Muluzi lead any coalition he joins.

Patuma Deya, the Director of Women for Friends of Atupele, also urged citizens to take part in the ongoing voter registration by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC). She encouraged Malawians to register, ensuring they can cast their votes for Muluzi in next year’s elections.

With Friends of Atupele Muluzi advocating for a clear leadership role for Muluzi, the UDF may face increasing pressure to secure prominent positions in political alliances, setting the stage for an active election season ahead of 2025.
