A major court case in Blantyre has taken a new turn as the side representing Norman Chisale has had their request for the case to be dismissed rejected by the court. The case revolves around the government’s attempt to seize property from Chisale, alleging that he acquired it through fraudulent means.
Chisale, a prominent figure, was accused by the government of using deceptive methods to acquire his assets. However, two weeks ago, Chisale’s legal representative, Chancy Gondwe, presented several arguments suggesting that the case lacked sufficient grounds to continue. Gondwe contended that there were insufficient reasons for the court to pursue the matter further.
Despite these arguments, the presiding judge, Anneline Kanthambi, disagreed with the motion and ruled that Chisale’s side had not provided compelling enough reasons to halt the case. She further rejected their request for a temporary suspension while awaiting a decision on whether the case should proceed to the Supreme Court.
In the wake of this ruling, Gondwe requested that the court allow them to challenge the decision at a higher court. He also asked for the case to be paused while they await a resolution from the Supreme Court. However, Judge Kanthambi once again denied the request, confirming that the case would continue without delay.
