Sometimes, life has a way of placing us in situations that compel us to act, to rise above our own routines, and to reach out to those in need. For Suleiman Chitera, a visit to Mangochi turned into a powerful reminder of the urgent need for kindness and solidarity.
During his visit, Suleiman was approached by a family carrying a boy who could not walk. The boy, paralyzed and unable to move independently, looked at him with a quiet plea for help. This boy wasn’t alone in his struggle. His family revealed that he is one of two boys in their household who are paralyzed and confined to their home, unable to experience the simple joys of mobility.
On this day, the family could only bring one of the boys to Suleiman, hoping that their story would move someone to action. Their hope now rests in our hands.
Imagine for a moment being a child, yearning to run, play, and explore, but confined to the limits of your body. For these boys, life is not just about living with paralysis—it’s about navigating a world that is not built for those without mobility. Their parents, burdened by both love and desperation, have done all they can to care for them. But there is only so much they can do in a community where resources are scarce and opportunities for support are limited.
For these two boys, a wheelchair is not just a means of transport—it is a key to freedom, independence, and a semblance of normalcy.
Suleiman Chitera has taken it upon himself to amplify their voice and seek well-wishers who can help provide these boys with the wheelchairs they so desperately need. But he cannot do it alone. This is where we come in.
As you read this story, I ask you to put yourself in their shoes—or, rather, in their place. Imagine the difference a wheelchair would make—not only to these boys but to their families. A wheelchair would mean the ability to go to school, to visit friends, to enjoy the fresh air, and to engage with the world around them.
This is a plea to every individual, organization, and community leader who has the capacity to help. Your contribution—whether it is a donation, a wheelchair, or a connection to an organization that can provide assistance—could transform their lives.
Every small act matters. Whether it’s reaching out to Suleiman Chitera to lend your support, spreading the word about this story, or offering your resources, your involvement could be the beacon of hope these boys need.
The story of these two boys is a reminder that we are all connected by our shared humanity. When one of us is in need, it is up to the rest of us to step forward and make a difference.
Let us not allow their cries for help to go unanswered. If you are moved by their story and wish to help, please contact Suleiman Chitera or reach out to me so we can coordinate efforts.
Together, let’s ensure these boys have the chance to experience life beyond their physical limitations. Let us be the hands that lift them and the hearts that give them hope. Because when we come together, we can change lives—and there is no greater gift than that.
The time to act is now. Will you join us?
