Private Schools Association of Malawi Requests Police Investigation into Student Riot at Michiru and Chisapi Secondary Schools

The Private Schools Association of Malawi (Prisam) has called on the police to investigate students responsible for inciting a riot at Michiru and Chisapi Secondary Schools, which resulted in significant damage to school property.

Prisam President, Ernest Kaonga, made the appeal following the destruction of school property, urging authorities to identify and take appropriate action against the students believed to be behind the unrest. “These are not schoolchildren, but rather delinquents. No student would have the mindset to destroy school property, regardless of any differences,” Kaonga stated.

The incident at Michiru Secondary School occurred last night, where a group of students allegedly set fire that destroyed a staff room and the office of the headmaster, Morris Kaboni. When approached for comment, Kaboni declined to discuss the issue further.

Kaonga stressed that the riots were not a reflection of student conduct but were instead driven by those seeking to disrupt the educational environment. The association is urging swift police intervention to bring the culprits to justice and ensure that such incidents do not repeat in the future.
