Police officers in the Central West Region of Malawi have been encouraged to uphold professionalism in the course of their duties. This call was made by Mr. Dennis Banda, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, during a junior officers’ end-of-year party in Lilongwe last night.
Banda, who was representing the Commissioner of Police as the guest of honor, shared key insights with the officers in attendance, emphasizing the importance of understanding situations before making decisions. He warned against hasty decisions, explaining that such actions often lead to regrettable consequences. He stated, “A good officer starts by understanding the situation before making any decision. Rushing leads to bad and regrettable results.”
His message to the officers was clear: hard work, discipline, and patience are essential for making sound decisions in challenging situations. He urged officers to remain composed and to carefully assess situations to ensure the right actions are taken.
In response, Sub Inspector Steve Mandala, who spoke on behalf of the officers, expressed gratitude to God for protecting them throughout the year. He highlighted the significance of the gathering, noting that it offered a chance for the officers to unwind and relax after a challenging year. Mandala also reflected on the difficult reality that many officers have lost their lives while on duty, which he described as a worrying trend.
To honor those who had fallen in the line of duty, the officers held a minute of silence during the event, paying tribute to their colleagues who made the ultimate sacrifice. The occasion served as a reminder of the risks faced by police officers and the importance of maintaining professionalism and integrity in their service to the nation.
