NRFA Elections Voting Suspended Amid Chaos

The Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) elections hit a snag, failed to produce a complete new set of leaders for the executive committee due to a deadlock in the chairperson position.

Tension was very high, despite a rerun, incumbent chairperson Chauka Mwasinga and general secretary Masiya Nyasulu could not be separated, each securing 13 votes in both rounds of voting.

The tie led to the election proceedings being adjourned to 13:30 hours by presiding officer MadalitsoKuyera, the Football Association of Malawi (FAM)’s 1st Vice President, but this move only ignited chaos, leading to the suspension of the election until further notice.

“I suspend the proceedings to 13:30 hours, upon reconvening all those whose names are appearing on the FAM voters roll will be allowed to cast their votes,” said Kuyera.

Some keen followers of the election criticized the poor electoral management, also condemned the NRFA for hosting the election at a substandard venue (bottle store) in Rumphi District.

“It’s not only strange but also disappointing for the whole NRFA to host such an important elective Annual General Meeting at that substandard pub,” said one policeman, Julius Pensulo.

The NRFA immediately confirmed the suspension of the election on its official Facebook page, stating that new dates will be announced soon.

FAM is expected to provide guidance on how best the elections will proceed.
