A hyena that laughs too soon has seen the tied goat behind the house.
The boma ndilomweli trademark it is not just a slogan there is a deeper meaning in it which may eventually lead our nation to catastrophe.
The opposition parties and all aspiring candidates in Malawi must heed this wisdom before it is too late.
The upcoming September general elections have already been rigged. The writing is on the wall for all who have eyes to see.
If decisive action is not taken now, the nation will walk blindly into a trap from which it may never recover.
The late Kenneth Kaunda, a man of deep wisdom once warned that “Malawi is a dead nation.” If we do not rise now and demand electoral justice, his words will prove prophetic. We will not just be a dead nation in name—we will be dead in democracy, dead in truth, and dead in the eyes of history.
A rigged election does not begin on voting day; it is prepared long before. It starts in the dark corners where voter registration is manipulated, where ghost voters are created, genuine voters will be deliberately ommitted in the voters roll and where opposition strongholds are weakened.
It is a silent war, fought not with guns but with stolen votes and corrupt systems.
Many of us have raised the alarm before, but warnings alone will not save the nation. If the opposition parties continue with their campaigns without first addressing the compromised voters’ roll, they will only be marching toward their own political graves.
“The hunter who chases the wind will never fill his pot,” and in the same way, an election conducted under a broken system will never produce a fair result.
The Courts Must Intervene Now
The battle must be taken to the courts before it is too late. There must be a fresh and transparent voter registration exercise to ensure that Malawians are not walking into a predetermined defeat.
“A man who notices the flood early can still save his home,” but if he waits too long, even his voice will be drowned.
The opposition must move swiftly, united, and fearless. This is not about political parties—this is about the soul of the nation.
A rigged election today sets a dangerous precedent for the future. It tells the youth that their votes do not matter, that their voices can be stolen before they even speak.
If the opposition ignores this warning and continues with their rallies and campaigns, they will only be part of a grand performance—a show designed to give legitimacy to an already stolen election.
“The cow that refuses to leave the burning barn will perish with it.” If we do not act now, history will judge us for our silence.
The time is now. The alarm has been sounded. Let no one say they were not warned. “A tree that is not uprooted when it is young will later be too strong to cut down.”
If we allow this rigging to stand today, it will be the foundation of weakening our own democracy and we will be a dead nation indeed not just a dead nation; but the buried nation with no hope of resurrection.
The choice is before us. Will we fight for justice, or will we watch democracy wither away? The time to act is now.
