The UTM Party has announced plans to unveil what it describes as a realistic and achievable manifesto aimed at tackling the pressing challenges facing Malawians today.
This comes in the wake of the official campaign period launch by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) on July 14, which has sparked a wave of political activity as parties gear up for the elections.
UTM spokesperson Felix Njawala stressed that the party is committed to making genuine promises that reflect the current socio-economic realities of the country.
“Malawians are now wide awake. They can easily detect lies in political pledges. As UTM, we will not fall into the trap of making empty promises just to win votes,” said Njawala.
He emphasized that the UTM manifesto, expected to be launched in Lilongwe soon, will focus on practical solutions to key issues such as unemployment, the high cost of living, and access to quality public services.
Njawala also took a swipe at other political parties, urging them to refrain from unrealistic pledges that may mislead voters.
“As a party, we believe in addressing the real issues affecting Malawians, not in mere rhetoric,” he said.
The UTM’s position is likely to add more pressure on rival parties to carefully weigh their campaign promises as the election race intensifies.
