LILONGWE, Malawi — The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has announced a reduction in the prices of diesel and kerosene, while leaving the pump price of petrol unchanged.MERA develops regulatory framework for electric vehicles in Malawi

According to a statement signed by MERA Chief Executive Officer Lucas Kondowe, diesel will now retail at K5,863 per litre, down from K6,306 per litre, representing a 7.02 percent decrease.

Meanwhile, the price of petrol remains unchanged at K5,619 per litre.

MERA said the latest fuel price review follows an assessment of fuel import costs for July 2026, taking into account changes in international procurement costs, freight charges, insurance, taxes and other related import expenses.

Fuel prices in Malawi are periodically reviewed by MERA to reflect movements in the cost of importing petroleum products, exchange rate trends and other pricing components in line with the country’s automatic fuel pricing mechanism. :::
