A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has advised MCP Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda to stop commenting against released poll results which are putting Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on the lead.
Kamphangala said what the MCP could do with these surveys is to go back to the drawing board to find where the party is getting it wrong for corrections assuring Chimwendo that the poll results are reflecting the truth as to what is on the ground.
He has dismissed claims which are being made by Chimwendo Banda and others, in MCP rallies that the DPP is funding reporters to be fabricating figures putting Professor Mutharika as poised to win the 16th September, 2025 elections.
Chimwendo Banda has been quoted in the media having told Malawians not to believe the surveys released because the DPP is using journalists within and outside Malawi to be releasing the poll results so that MCP members and supporters lose trust in their candidate- President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.
“These survey results should give the MCP and President Chakwera time to pull up their socks on areas where they are not doing it good,” said Kamphangala.
The Institute of Public Opinion and Research (IPOR) has released its study which was conducted between 14th to 27th August, 2025 where DPP candidate Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is leading the presidential race with 41 percent.
In July, 2025 the IPOR released its first survey which showed Professor Mutharika leading with 43 percent, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera was second with 26 percent, Dr. Dalitso Kabambe 5 percent, Atupele Muluzi 2 percent and Dr. Joyce Banda 1 percent.
In the recent IPOR survey Professor Mutharika has dropped down from 43 to 41 percent, Dr. Chakwera has climbed up the ladder from 26 to 31 percent, Dr. Dalitso Kabambe 6 percent, Atupele Muluzi 3 percent, while Dr. Joyce Banda 2 percent.
In December, 2024 the Afro-Barometer survey indicated that Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika was the winner if the elections were held in that month and with the recent IPOR survey results, they are all pointing to one person, Mutharika –the winner.
Kamphangala has advised genuine MCP members and supporters to accept the results of the surveys which are speaking for itself that President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has failed to run the country in the interest of all.
He has warned all those that are against these surveys particularly MCP members and supporters, to conduct their own surveys in the villages and locations they are staying, saying no one is speaking good of MCP and President Chakwera.
