President Arthur Peter Mutharika has moved to reinforce Malawi’s global engagement by appointing Chauncy Simwaka as the new Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, effective 8th December 2025.

Simwaka, a seasoned administrator known for his professionalism and strategic leadership, takes over from Dr. Bright Molande, who has been reassigned to the Ministry of Trade in the same capacity after a brief but impactful tenure that began in October.

In a communication circulated to all Malawian diplomatic missions worldwide, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed Simwaka’s appointment, signaling a renewed drive to elevate Malawi’s international relations, strengthen bilateral partnerships, and advance the country’s interests on the global stage.

The appointment is being viewed as a strategic step in boosting Malawi’s diplomatic effectiveness as the nation positions itself for greater international cooperation and economic opportunity.
