The Government of Malawi has appointed Henry Mussa as the new Executive Director of the Malawi Institute of Tourism (MIT), marking a significant leadership change at the country’s premier hospitality and tourism training institution.
The appointment was announced in an internal circular signed by Acting Executive Director Kamwana Karim, informing members of staff that Mussa officially assumed the position on July 7, 2026.

“I write to inform all members of staff that the Government of Malawi (GoM), through the MIT Board of Trustees has appointed Mr. Henry Mussa as the Executive Director of Malawi Institute of Tourism. The appointment is effective 7th July, 2026,” reads the memo.
Mussa takes over at a crucial time when the government is intensifying efforts to transform tourism into one of Malawi’s leading contributors to economic growth, job creation and foreign exchange earnings.

His appointment is expected to provide strategic leadership as the institution aligns its training programmes with the government’s broader agenda of strengthening Malawi’s tourism sector and improving service standards across the hospitality industry.
