The Malawi police have removed several roadblocks across the country, with almost all roadblocks in Lilongwe dismantled. This move comes after the Minister of Homeland Security acknowledged the unnecessary roadblocks, which some police officers were using as a “cash cow” to collect bribes from motorists. The ministry plans to introduce an electronic revenue collection system to eliminate cash transactions. Similar removals were made in 2020 to mobilize officers for the election, but the latest move aims to address corruption concerns.
