President Lazarus Chakwera has committed to deal with challenges affecting the country’s private sector investments such as land, legal and regulatory. .
He was speaking during the official launch of the Pyxus Agriculture Limited Groundnut Processing Plant at Kanengo in Lilongwe.
Through his Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) that has been focusing on public sector investments, Chakwera said he will now establish the private sector Investments Laboratory to look into private sector needs.
Chakwera has also announced that his government will establish a Private Sector Council as point of call between the government and private sector for candid discussions about addressing issues affecting the country’s private sector growth.
The President said it is his will to ensure the country’s private sector becomes a lead in the Southern Africa Development Community (Sadc) which he is currently chairing.
Chakwera said private sector is key in his agenda of job creation. He therefore hailed the Pyxus Agriculture Limited Groundnut Processing Plant establishment which is poised to recruit about 2 000 workers, with about 7 000 farmers already contracted to supply the company with groundnuts.
