Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative-CDEDI has given a 7-day ultimatum to Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda to provide the general public with terms and conditions of the contract between government and Tecno brain.
Speaking during press briefing in Lilongwe, CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa said failing which, Malawians will be forced to make their own conclusions and decide to take action.
Namiwa has asked government to helt the process of procuring a new passport supplier and revert to Techno Brain.
Namiwa emphasized that he has established that the government is in the process of engaging the new supplier following the expiry of the K897 million six – month E- Techno Systems contract this August end.
He said they are concerned that the government will spend not lesss than K69 billion to build a parallel system hence the demand to revert to Techno Brain to save tax payers money.
Again, Namiwa has urged government to revisit and involve Tecno brain in resolving the passport crisis saying the challenge is rocking the country.
Commenting on the matter, Principle Secretary in the ministry of Homeland security Dr. Steven Kayuni said “there is no rolling back on Techno Brain.
He said the procurement process for new supplier started and we believe that PPDA guidance within the law will wrap up shortly.”
He said all the contracts that were there were terminated using section 46 of PPDA, which states that the buyer can terminate a contract at any given time but should pay for services that were purchased before the termination.
