Kambala to step aside for Mary Nkhamanyachi Chilima even if he wins UTM Convention

By Burnett Munthali

Newton Kambala, one of the key contenders in the upcoming UTM Party convention, has indicated that he would willingly step aside for Mary Nkhamanyachi Chilima, even if he emerges victorious. This surprising development highlights Kambala’s commitment to party unity and his respect for Chilima’s influence within UTM.

Kambala, a seasoned politician, has made it clear that his candidacy is aimed at ensuring UTM remains strong and united ahead of the 2025 general elections. He believes that Mary Nkhamanyachi Chilima, wife of the late Vice President Saulos Chilima, is a pivotal figure in the party and should lead the party going forward.

Sources within UTM say that Mary Nkhamanyachi Chilima’s growing influence within the party, especially after her late husband’s passing, has positioned her as a unifying force.

Kambala stated, “Even if I win, I will give her the space to lead. UTM needs strong leadership, and I believe Mary has what it takes to carry the legacy forward.”

As the convention approaches, many UTM supporters will be keen to see how the party balances its internal dynamics while preparing for the crucial 2025 elections.
