More than 2,127 Malawians have been deported back to Malawi from South Africa over the past two months, according to Malawi’s Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services. Spokesperson Wellington Chiponde confirmed the development, stating that these individuals were expelled due to violations of South African immigration laws, including the lack of proper travel and work documents.

The deportations underscore ongoing challenges faced by many Malawians seeking work or a new life in South Africa. Security analyst Aubrey Kabisala has urged Malawians to ensure they have all necessary documents before traveling abroad. “It is essential for our citizens to hold valid travel and work permits to avoid these unfortunate situations,” Kabisala advised.

The increase in deportations highlights the need for greater awareness of immigration requirements among Malawians who hope to work abroad. With many Malawians affected, this situation calls for both individual and governmental efforts to address documentation and promote safer migration practices.
