Chiradzulu, Malawi. Former Malawian President Joyce Banda has accused the government of seizing the security escort vehicle that typically leads her motorcade, stating that no clear reason was provided for the seizure.
Banda made these remarks while commenting on an incident that occurred on Saturday, when the vehicle she was using for a public rally and which was part of her convoy, was hit by another car whose owner remains unknown.
Banda added that a former president is entitled to full government-provided security, including escort vehicles, from the current administration.
“While I was returning from the rally in Blantyre, as we were passing through Njuri in Chiradzulu, one of the cars in my convoy, which I was using to conduct the rally, was hit by another vehicle and was damaged,” she said.
Recently, the country’s Vice President, Michael Usi, also raised a similar concern, stating that his lead escort vehicle was also confiscated by the government without any clear explanation.
