The Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) has appealed to Malawians to remain calm and united as the country awaits the official results of the 16 September 2025 General Elections.

In a statement signed by its Secretary General, Alhaj Dr. Twaibu Lawe, MAM commended Malawians for turning out in large numbers to vote, describing the high participation as a true reflection of the nation’s commitment to democracy.

Commends Transparency in Election Process

MAM acknowledged that although some polling centres experienced delays due to network challenges, the electoral process was largely conducted in an orderly and transparent manner. The association further noted that vote counting was carried out in the presence of political party monitors, ensuring accountability before results were transmitted to tally centres.

The statement also praised the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) for providing consistent updates throughout the voting and counting period. According to MAM, this level of communication demonstrated transparency, professionalism, and accountability in the management of the polls.

Applauds Security Agencies

MAM also saluted the country’s security agencies for maintaining law and order during the elections. Dr. Lawe highlighted that their professionalism ensured peace and confidence in the process.

“We salute the security agencies for their professionalism in ensuring peace throughout the exercise. As we await the final results, we appeal to all Malawians to maintain peace and unity, and put the nation’s interests above political differences,” reads part of the MAM statement.

Call for Peace and Unity

With the nation in a period of heightened anticipation, MAM has urged all political leaders, supporters, and citizens to remain calm, respect due process, and embrace peace regardless of the outcome of the elections.
