Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) has stood firm against the proposed abolition of the Death Penalty Bill which is being championed by civil society organisations in the country. MAM Spokesperson Sheikh Dinala Chabulika, said the death penalty serves as an important warning to would-be offenders and the law needs to be made from the victims' point of view. Sheikh Chabulika made the remarks during a debate that took place in Lilongwe where the government, through the Minister of Justice Titus Mvalo, expressed optimism to take the bill to Parliament in the forthcoming sitting of Parliament. The event is aimed at equipping Muslim youths with knowledge on how best they can deal with mental health related issues. Making the presentation now is Professor Eric Umar from Kamuzu University of Health Sciences. He talks more about mental health causes, signs and the remedies. After that brother Hamdan Zefa Banda will make a presentation regarding Mental Health on Islamic Perspective. About 100 participants registered for this event and about 70 percent are females.
