Mutharika creates conducive environment for everyone

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika says he is creating a conducive environment for everyone to be productive so that together they can make 2026 a year of renewal and progress of families and the nation.

Professor Mutharika has called upon farmers to produce more, if used to plant once a year, they should aim to plant twice, and if they are business persons, they should expand the goods and services they provide and employ more people.

He said it was heartbreaking to watch the country’s modest savings lose value with each passing day, observing that the once- celebrated growing economy was reduced to a land of shortages claiming that essentials such as fuel, foreign exchange, fertilizer, and food suddenly became scarce.

Speaking in his National Address marking New Year 2026 President Professor Mutharika thanked Malawians for their decision they made on the 16th September, 2025 saying the economic tragedy is steadily becoming a thing of the past.

Mutharika said in just three months since he assumed office, signs of recovery are already visible saying inflation is declining, power outages are shortening, and the country is moving closer to eliminating blackouts.

He said the country is firmly on track with the economic recovery plan saying these critical indicators are inspiring confidence among potential investors adding that he is mindful that hunger remains a pressing issue in Malawi.

The President said government has intensified distribution of relief food and ensured that ADMARC markets are stocked with maize urging all those involved in food distribution to work diligently so that all families facing food insecurity are fully supported to make sure that no Malawian die of hunger.

He said he will intensify agricultural production to exceed domestic demand so that the country can export the surplus promising that his government will uphold the fiscal discipline and prioritize investments in key productive sectors including mining, energy and railway infrastructure to lower the cost of doing business. drive industrialization, and generate employment.

“Our economy must uplift the living standards of all Malawians and I will maintain a strong stance against corruption so that these efforts should bear fruits, a Happy New Year to you all.” Said Professor Mutharika.
