Senior Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) member Dr George Chaponda has commended India for its remarkable socio-economic transformation, describing the Asian nation as a source of inspiration for Malawi.
Chaponda made the remarks when he joined the Indian community in Malawi in commemorating the 77th Republic Day of India, a celebration marking the country’s rich heritage, resilience and journey of progress since becoming a republic.
Speaking during the event, Chaponda said he had the honour of conveying warm greetings and heartfelt gratitude from former President, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, to the President of India, Shrimati Droupadi Murmu, and to the people of India.
He noted that India’s rise to become the world’s fourth largest economy stands as a powerful example of what can be achieved through innovation, strong institutions and disciplined governance.
