A Member of Parliament for Nkhotakota Central, Sylvester Ayuba James, has commended former Malawi leader Peter Mutharika, describing him as a highly intelligent and deeply reflective statesman.
Speaking after attending a swearing-in ceremony for the head of the National Intelligence Authority, Ayuba said the event reaffirmed his belief that Malawians made a wise decision in entrusting Mutharika with leadership.
According to the legislator, Mutharika’s communication style and depth of thought set him apart from many leaders. He emphasized that the former president speaks from conviction rather than scripted messaging.
“Despite his age, he demonstrates profound wisdom. When he speaks, it is clear that his words come from the heart, not from prepared texts like a poem. He also has the ability to engage people through humor,” said Ayuba.
The remarks come at a time when political discourse in Malawi continues to intensify, with various stakeholders weighing in on leadership qualities and the country’s future direction.
Ayuba further noted that many citizens still view Mutharika as a capable leader, citing his experience and governance record as key strengths. He argued that such qualities remain relevant in addressing current national challenges.
While opinions remain divided across the political spectrum, Ayuba’s sentiments reflect a broader segment of the population that continues to express confidence in Mutharika’s leadership credentials.
The comments are likely to add momentum to ongoing discussions about political leadership and governance as the country looks ahead to future electoral cycles.
