
MAM Against Abolition Of Death Penalty
Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) has stood firm against the proposed abolition of the Death Penalty Bill which is being championed by civil society organisations in the country.
MAM Spokesperson Sheikh Dinala Chabulika, said the death penalty serves as an important warning to would-be offenders and the law needs to be made from the victims' point of view.
Sheikh Chabulika made the remarks during a debate that took place in Lilongwe where the government, through the Minister of Justice Titus Mvalo, expressed optimism to take the bill to Parliament in the forthcoming sitting of Parliament.
On the other hand, Inkosi ya Makosi Gomani, expressed satisfaction with the bill as he agreed that it will serve as a plus to the consolidation of human rights in the country.
