In what many respondents to the inquiry surrounding the death of Dr. Saulosi Chilima and eight others have presented lies and contradictory statements that Chilima went to the funeral of Ralph Kasambala by his own wishes, former Minister of Defence in the MCP led government, Harry Mkandawire, has spilled the beans.
Appearing before the parliamentary adhoc committee on Monday, Harry Mkandawire told the Committee that former President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera informed him that Dr. Saulosi Chilima will attend the funeral of late Ralph Kasambala in Nkhatabay and he was to travel through the military aircraft and that was on the evening of 9th June, 2024.Nyamilandu Takes Helm of Parliamentary Probe into Chilima Plane Crash
Mkandawire further told the committee that on the 10th June, 2024 he received a phone call from MDF Commander General Dr. Paul Velentino Phiri that the military aircraft that carried Dr. Saulosi Chilima, and others, had returned to Lilongwe due to the bad weather in Mzuzu making it impossible to land there.
Mkandawire said later, he received another information that the plane went missing, and that a search mission was deployed in the Chikangawa to help locating the missing plane.

Kamphangala said it is now true that the MK 5 million cash which Dr. Saulosi Chilima took from the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) was handed over to him by President Chakwera and not the lies that he was given just because he was the Vice President.
He said lying under Oath is a criminal offence, advising the police to arrest all those that have presented lies and contradictory statements to the committee as a lesson to the other would be offenders of giving lies under Oath reminding Malawians that taxpayers money should be used for the intended purposes not lies.
The MCP diehard recalled that former President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera instituted a Commission of Inquiry to investigate circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Dr. Chilima and eight others, the results which came out, did not please Malawians saying this is why they demanded for the fresh investigations.
Kamphangala said in President Chakwera’s Commission of Inquiry, taxpayers money was shared by the committee and those who instituted the Commission of Inquiry saying this is the same with Amaryllis Hotel, no one till this day was arrested and prosecuted for presenting lies under Oath.
He has advised MCP members and supporters who were celebrating that MCP would become victorious in the ongoing investigations to put on hold their celebrations until the last whistle is blown to mark the end of the fresh investigations but as of now, the disaster is going towards the MCP for their evil deeds in relation to the party’s bad history of the past.Kamphangala calls Ad – hock Committee to investigate Chakwera’s Commission of Inquiry
Kamphangala said from what Harry Mkandawire, has presented, Malawians are now anxiously waiting for the turn of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, former MDF Commander, Colleen Zamba, and others, to appear before the committee for there lies and contradictory statements.
He has finally urged Malawians to keep on praying for justice to be seen, saying in the Chikangawa forest, there was God who saw everything and this God will conquer light from darkness and this has started with Harry Mkandawire’s testimony that Dr. Saulosi Chilima was delegated by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to attend the funeral service of the late Ralph Kasambara in Nkhatabay district dismissing all claims that Dr. Chakwera was not aware that Dr. Chilima was back in the country from South Korea.
