Kamphangala warns MCP of plans to restrict presidency to central region

A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, says he has learnt with a great shock and disappointment reading media reports that MCP has plans of restricting presidency to only those in the central region of Malawi.

Kamphangala said ever since these media reports started circulating, no MCP official stood up to deny this, speaking clearly that people in the MCP have agreed for this.

The MCP diehard said those who came with this proposal or plan of restricting presidency in the central region do not love the MCP as a party with all of their hearts and it is better for them to leave the party in peace.

He said the late Gwanda Chakuamba Phiri and Mohammad Sidik Mia made the MCP to penetrate in the southern region of Malawi because they used their personal resources and not that of the MCP to woo MCP support.

Kamphangala said at no time the late Mr. John Zenasi Ungapake Tembo made a proposal to restrict MCP presidency to be rotating amongst influential leaders of the region.

Media reports say President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera was not present at the time the plans were hatched, Kamphangala suspects that President Chakwera was all aware of all these plans a development which will destroy the MCP as a national party in Malawi.Critics Accuse MCP Leadership of Neglecting Environment and Public Welfare

The reports say a group of senior members of the MCP have agreed to amend the MCP Constitution and to reserve four senior top position seats for central region MCP leaders to compete among themselves.

Kamphangala said if the MCP is for the Chewas of the central region, all the Chewas from other regions but wants to compete for presidency in the party, there’s no room to accommodate them MCP must change its name to suit only the Chewas of the central region.Kamphangala advises MCP to rebuild the party not 2030 elections

He has appealed to MCP family and supporters to rise up and speak with one voice by making sure that the MCP remain a national party with its supporters united, devided they fall
