BLANTYRE, Malawi — Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Roza Fatch Mbilizi has presided over the official opening of the 22nd Agriculture Fair at the Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds in Blantyre, bringing together farmers, agro-processors, financial institutions, development partners, buyers and other key players in Malawi’s agricultural sector.
The three-day event, which runs from August 27 to 29, 2026, has attracted exhibitors showcasing a wide range of agricultural products, technologies, services and innovations aimed at strengthening Malawi’s agricultural value chain.
The opening ceremony began with an energetic parade led by Blantyre City Mayor Isaac Osman, with participants marching from the Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds to Chichiri Roundabout.
The procession became even more vibrant when the Black Missionaries Band joined the group during the return march, creating an entertaining atmosphere for participants and members of the public. Police officers provided security throughout the procession.
At the fairgrounds, exhibitors are showcasing their products and services in various booths, while buyers are engaging producers and other agricultural stakeholders to explore business opportunities and establish market connections.
The event is organised by the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) under the theme, “Transforming Agriculture through Innovation, Value Addition, and Market Linkages.”
The theme reflects efforts to modernise Malawi’s agriculture sector by encouraging innovation, increasing value addition and creating stronger connections between producers and markets.
The Agriculture Fair also provides an important platform for farmers and agro-processors to promote their products, interact with potential buyers, access financial and business services, and develop partnerships across the agricultural value chain.
With agriculture remaining a major pillar of Malawi’s economy, stakeholders at the fair are expected to use the platform to promote solutions that can increase productivity, strengthen agro-processing and expand market opportunities for local producers.
The 22nd Agriculture Fair in Blantyre will continue until August 29, giving members of the public, businesses and agricultural stakeholders an opportunity to explore products and services while supporting Malawi’s drive towards a more innovative, value-added and market-oriented agricultural sector.
