Thom Mpinganjira fires Roosevelt Mpinganjira at Wanderers

MPINGANJIRA—I am not sponsoring the team to make gains

Not even having a similar surname to Mighty Mukuru Wanderers President Thom Mpinganjira could spare Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Roosevelt Mpinganjira from the rod of his boss as he became the latest figure to get fired at the Lali Lubani Road outfit.

Wanderers’ rebuilding exercise took another twist on Saturday when the team fired CEO Mpinganjira eight months into the job.

Mpinganjira confirmed being relieved of his duties in a brief interview but hailed the team’s management for hiring him to run the club.

“It is true that I have been relieved of my duties as the club’s CEO. Nevertheless, I thank the team’s leadership for giving me a chance to manage the club. It was an exciting experience.

“My stay at Wanderers was great and I have learnt a lot and met new people along the way. But life has to go on,” Mpinganjira said.

However, Mpinganjira was yet to say what he would do next.

“Not yet considered my next move but I always put God first. He will make a way,” the former Football Association of Malawi general secretary said.

Wanderers Board Secretary Chancy Gondwe could not be drawn to disclose the factors that have culminated in Mpinganjira’s firing.

“I can confirm that we have reached a mutual agreement to terminate the employment contract. We respect the privacy and confidentiality of all individuals involved and will not be providing further details on this matter,” Gondwe said.

Mpinganjira was responsible for supervision of the secretariat, ensuring sporting and commercial viability of the club and its facilities, and timely implementation of board resolutions and giving strategic direction.

However, after a disappointing season, the club president, in exercising his powers, dissolved the technical panel, board and supporters’ committee.

Mpinganjira has started ringing changes and the first was the appointment of a new board, followed by technical panel and supporters’ committees.

In preparation for the 2024 season, they signed last season’s TNM Super League golden boot award winner Clement Nyondo from Dedza Dynamos
