Chakwera arrives in Zambia for SADC Summit

President Lazarus Chakwera has jet in Zambia on Friday afternoon via Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

Chakwera is anticipated to partake in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit convened in Lusaka.

Before departing from Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe, the capital city, President Chakwera underscored the paramount importance of the Extraordinary SADC Summit in enhancing collaboration among nations in Southern Africa

He said the summit will help in addressing pressing regional issues, particularly in the realm of security.

“In attending this summit, Malawi seeks to strengthen ties with our neighbouring countries and collectively address the security challenges facing our region,” Chakwera said.

Furthermore, he said his summit objectives, with a particular emphasis on addressing food security as a primary concern for Malawi.

He committed to advocating for holistic approaches to mitigate food insecurity and enhance agricultural advancement within the region.

“The cross-border effects of these two inconveniences have a direct negative bearing on the movement of goods, people and services thereby hindering economic progress for the entire region.

“We will examine the preparedness of member states in combating food insecurity in the face of erratic weather patterns and the looming El Niño spell likely to affect the region’s food production,“ he said.

Scheduled for March 23rd in Lusaka, Zambia, the SADC Extraordinary Summit will assemble leaders from various Southern African nations to deliberate on pressing regional matters.

Through President Chakwera’s engagement, Malawi seeks to foster productive discourse and cooperative initiatives aimed at fostering regional stability and prosperity.
