President of the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) Enoch Chakufwa Chihana has vehemently denied media reports alleging incompetence and corruption within the party, labeling them as “total madness.”

The Maravi Post recently carried a scathing article questioning Chihana’s leadership capabilities, specifically his inability to secure a ministerial position within the Tonse Alliance government.

Chihana fired back in a recent interview, dismissing the accusations as personal attacks from “frustrated masquerades” in the media industry.

He emphasized the importance of fact-checking, also known as ‘evidence based journalism’ stating that authors or publishers should verify information before publishing stories.

“I have never worked at NOCMA,” Chihana clarified, highlighting the need for responsible journalism practices.

Regarding allegations of carrying a bail paper, Chihana questioned the writer’s understanding of court matters.

“What’s the issue with my bail bond? I’m not the first politician to be arrested or on bail,” he wondered.

However, the AFORD leader expressed reluctance to pursue disciplinary action against the writer or publishers, citing a lack of benefit in engaging with what he described as ‘uninformed individuals’.

Chihana is at the helm of AFORD, having received unwavering endorsement support as party president until 2025. Delegates at the recent convention demonstrated their confidence in his leadership, solidifying his position.
