By Comrade Jumbe
“Where there is no vision, the people perish,” says the ancient proverb.
Today, Malawi finds itself at a crossroads—a nation rich in potential but shackled by systemic failures in leadership and misplaced priorities.
As a concerned citizen, my decision to contest the presidency in 2025 is not born out of ambition for power or status.
Rather, it stems from a profound love for my country and a burning desire to steer Malawi toward a path of prosperity and dignity for all.
For too long, we have entrusted our country to leaders chosen not for their vision or passion, but for their wealth, influence, and the names they bear in society.
This misplaced trust has led us to elect individuals lacking the will or capacity to address the pressing challenges of our nation.
As a result, we have seen the continuation of poverty, corruption, and the exploitation of our resources for the benefit of a select few.
“Mutu umodzi susenza denga”—one head cannot carry a roof.
This wisdom reminds us that leadership is a collective effort, requiring humility, service, and collaboration with the people.
Yet, our leadership culture has often focused on personal gain rather than collective upliftment.
A Vision for Change: My Commitment to Malawi
If given the privilege to lead, I pledge to bring a transformative approach to governance, one rooted in service, integrity, and selflessness.
- No Presidential Salary:
I will be the first president in Malawi’s history to dedicate my entire monthly salary to the poor and impoverished families.
Leadership, to me, is a sacred duty, not a business transaction.
This gesture will symbolize my commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the people over personal enrichment.
- Building a Fertilizer Plant for Malawi:
Our farmers are the backbone of this nation, yet they are left to struggle with exorbitant costs for essential resources like fertilizer.
This must change. As president, my top priority will be to establish a locally operated fertilizer plant using our own raw materials and expertise.
By doing this, we will not only create jobs for our graduates and skilled workers but also ensure that farmers have access to affordable fertilizer.
It is my vision and I strongly believe that our agricultural sector will thrive when given the right needed support.
- Investing in Education and Skills Development:
To realize this vision, we must invest in our young people.
I will send students abroad to learn advanced methods in agricultural production and fertilizer manufacturing, equipping them with the knowledge needed to build and sustain our industries.
- Eradicating Corruption:
Corruption is a cancer that has eaten away at the soul of our nation.
It is illogical to allow leaders to milk our country dry in collaboration with external powers while our people suffer.
“ leadership should carry responsibility, not exploitation.
My fellow Malawians, let us choose wisely election should not be about names, riches, or societal status. It is about the soul of our nation and the future we envision for our children.
If we, as Malawians, continue to vote based on wealth or tribal affiliations, we will only perpetuate our suffering. Instead, let us rise and choose a leader who is guided by conscience, vision, and an unwavering commitment to serve.
This is the only Malawi we have. If we do not love it and take the lead ourselves, no one else will.
I am here to say: Enough is enough. It is time for a new era, one where the dignity of every Malawian is restored, and our resources are harnessed for our collective good.
Together, let us rebuild our nation with courage, hope, and unity. Let us ensure that the Malawi of tomorrow is one where every citizen can thrive.
The race to the presidency is not about me—it is about us. It is about Malawi.
Comrade Imraan Jumbe
Presidential Aspirant, 2025.
