Njikho, popularly known as Uncle Jose in the business community, highlighted the importance of gatherings at football matches as essential forums for people from diverse backgrounds to converge and discuss community development.
Njikho made these remarks during the prize presentation ceremony at Area 1B, marking the conclusion of his K3.5 million football trophy, which drew participation from multiple teams.
“Despite the challenges posed by inadequate recreation facilities in the city, football matches have proven to be vital platforms for people to discuss socio-economic matters and develop our communities,” Njikho stated.
Masiya Nyasulu, Secretary General of the Northern Region Football Association (NRFA), commended Njikho for fulfilling his pledge to award cash prizes to the participating teams.
“It’s impressive to see Uncle Jose honouring the teams with cash prizes immediately after the competition,” Nyasulu said.
Nyasulu reminded organizers of football competitions to align their events with the Football Association of Malawi, as required by the country’s Transformative Football Development Agenda.
The emerging champions, Zolozolo United, took home a K1 million top prize and a floating trophy after defeating Lupaso Platinum 6-5 in a penalty shootout, following a 2-2 draw during regular play.
