Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Chilobwe, Lawrence Chakakala Chaziya, has handed over a newly constructed girls’ hostel to Kamzimbi Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) and a clinic at Mang’a aimed at improving health services in the constituency.

Speaking during the official handover ceremony at Kamzimbi CDSS in Lilongwe, Chakakala Chaziya said the newly constructed hostel for girls will help address school dropout rates, early marriages, early pregnancies, and poor accommodation conditions that negatively affect girls’ education.

Chakakala Chaziya also pledged to support families with girl children in the constituency by paying school fees for girls through the Chakakala Chaziya Initiative for Education, which aims to improve education standards in the area.

He further said the newly constructed clinic will improve healthcare service delivery in the constituency, especially for children under the age of five, adding that the development will contribute to better health among community members.

“Currently, I have constructed two hostels at two secondary schools and I am planning to construct another two girls’ hostels at Mwala and Sendwe. I am also providing bursaries to 528 students from my constituency,” said Chakakala Chaziya.

“I’m also building classroom blocks in different primary schools, providing porridge to all 28 primary schools, and implementing a project to construct 34 nursery schools, of which more than 20 have already been completed in the constituency,” explained Chakakala Chaziya.

In his remarks, Traditional Authority Msinde expressed appreciation to the Member of Parliament for constructing the girls’ hostel and clinic, saying the developments were funded using his personal resources.

He appealed to community members and local leaders to safeguard the infrastructure so that future generations can benefit from it.

Meanwhile, Kamzimbi CDSS Head Teacher, Jesoph Jona Chunga, thanked the Member of Parliament for constructing the new hostel, saying it will help improve the school’s pass rate.
