UDF leader demands urgent police action as concern grows over reported abductions

BLANTYRE, MALAWI — United Democratic Front (UDF) leader Atupele Muluzi has sounded the alarm over the reported abduction of auditor Nusrat Jiwa Osman in Blantyre, calling on law-enforcement authorities to intensify investigations and do everything possible to ensure her safe return.
Muluzi’s intervention comes amid growing public concern over reports of people being abducted or forcibly taken in different parts of Malawi.
In a strongly worded message posted on his official Facebook page, the UDF leader said he was deeply saddened and concerned by Nusrat’s reported disappearance and urged the police to treat the matter with urgency.
He called on investigators to leave no stone unturned in efforts to establish what happened to Nusrat, determine her whereabouts and ensure that anyone found to have been involved in the reported abduction is arrested and brought before the courts.
“This should concern every Malawian”
Muluzi warned that reports of abductions and forced disappearances becoming increasingly common should not be treated as ordinary incidents.
He said such cases are particularly disturbing because incidents of this nature were previously not commonly associated with Malawi.
The UDF leader’s message effectively places the issue of public safety and the protection of citizens back at the centre of national attention.
For Nusrat’s family, however, the matter is more immediate: finding her.
Muluzi appealed to anyone who may have information about Nusrat’s whereabouts to immediately share it with her family or report it to the nearest police station.
He emphasised that no piece of information should be dismissed as too small or insignificant, as even a seemingly minor detail could assist investigators in locating her.
Appeal to Malawians: Help bring Nusrat home
Muluzi also called on Malawians to circulate information about Nusrat widely, saying increased public awareness could help generate leads and support efforts to locate her.
He further urged citizens to stand with Nusrat’s family during what is undoubtedly a deeply distressing period.
The case has now become a matter of significant public concern, with attention firmly focused on the investigation and on efforts to establish Nusrat’s whereabouts.
As authorities continue their work, the central question remains urgent:
Where is Nusrat Jiwa Osman, and will she be brought home safely?
Muluzi ended his message with a prayer for Nusrat’s protection and safe return.
“Allah protect Nusrat, keep her safe and bring her home soon,” said Muluzi.
For a family waiting for answers, those words carry a simple but powerful hope — that Nusrat will be found alive, safe and reunited with her loved ones.
