Government has cleared the way for the recall of Malawi’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Younos Abdul Karim, after an injunction he obtained restraining his removal from foreign service was discharged by the Industrial Relations Court.
Karim had sought legal intervention to challenge the government’s decision to recall him from his diplomatic posting in Kuwait, securing an injunction that temporarily restrained the process.
However, a letter seen by Malawi Freedom Network from the Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has formally informed Karim that the court has discharged the injunction, removing the legal barrier that had stood in the way of his recall.
Following the court’s decision, Karim has been directed to hand over all responsibilities and functions of the Malawi Mission in Kuwait to Jonah Pankuku.
The development marks a significant turn in the dispute surrounding Karim’s recall, with the government now moving ahead with the administrative transition at the diplomatic mission.
Malawi Freedom Network understands that the handover instruction follows the court’s decision, although details surrounding the reasons for Karim’s initial recall have not been provided in the communication seen by this publication.
