E-Tech No Capacity To Supply Passports

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has urged the government to furnish Malawians with information regarding a passport supplying contract with a local firm, E-Tech Systems.

In statement, the party’s spokesperson Shadric Namalomba says they understand that the company is connected to some Malawi Congress Party members and that it has no capacity to supply the passports.

“The DPP believes the contract was rewarded to the firm instead of being awarded, in an unfortunate episode that puts Malawians at a disadvantage.

“The clandestine manner in which the procurement process was carried out if indeed there was any procurement process at all is a stafjcremindee that the regime has no regard for rule of law,” Namalomba says.

He says the party wants the office of the Attorney General to act on the matter.

He says the way things are happening signals that the cancellation of the Techno Brain passports printing contract was not done in good faith.

Minister of Information Moses Kunkuyu says the government has no problem in sharing the information with Malawians.

He adds that the responsible ministry and departments are ready for the same.

Kunkuyu has since quashed suggestions that the company is linked to MCP members; arguing the company is capable of supplying the passports as it has already started issuing them.
