Human Traffickers Arrested In Mwanza

Human trafficker, other four arrested during joint operation in Mwanza

Police in collaboration with Immigration officers and committee against trafficking in persons on Wednesday evening, arrested five people for various offences during a successful joint operation which they instituted along M6 Road in Mwanza.

Mwanza Police Station spokesperson Hope Kasakula said the team managed to identify and arrest a human trafficker identified as Gleyson Banet, aged 41 of Kamwamba village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Mabuka in Mulanje District.

He said that during the same operation the team also arrested Mphatso Alfred aged 23, who hails from Kapiri Village in the area of TA Nsamala in Balaka District and Alfred Kaloti aged 44 who also hail from the same village.

The two were using fake passports going to South Africa.

In the course of the operation, they also managed to arrest Fransio Supuni aged 58 who was also found with 7,760 Mozambican currency metical illegally and shall be charged with illegal possession of foreign currency.

The officers on the same operation also netted Julius George who was found with medical drugs without permit.

He was found with seven bottles of ARV’s and other 1000 tablets, 29 Blisters of Bactrim and 500 Tablets of piriton.

The five shall appear before court soon to answer their charges.
