Human Rights Ambassadors has notified the Lilongwe District Commissioner's Office of their planned demonstrations slated for 28th September 2022. In the notice, the group's chairperson, Ben Longwe and others, want to force President Lazarus Chakwera and Vice President Saulos Chilima to call for a referendum or recuse themselves from discharging their duties in their positions. This comes weeks after President Chakwera met a section of some Civil Society Organizations leaders which reportedly pledged to opt for engagements as opposed to demonstrations.

The Criminal Investigations Department and Interpol Department are yet to update the Malawi Police on the progress made so far regarding the arrest and repatriation of Ben Longwe from South Africa. Deputy National Police Spokesperson Harry Namwaza has confirmed the development; saying commencement of criminal proceedings will happen once Longwe is in the country. Government has requested the South African government to arrest and extradite a Malawian based in that country known as Ben Longwe. Director of Public Prosecution, Steven Kayuni and Police Publicist, Harry Namwaza, have confirmed the development. The government's request follows a warrant of arrest that was obtained by law enforcement agencies for cyber-related offences and threats against judicial officers and legal practitioners in Malawi. Of late cyber-related crimes have been prosecuted in Malawian Courts in a bid to deter threats, character assassination and peddling of lies on social media.

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) says it is dismayed by an audio clip that has gone viral purported recorded by one Ben Longwe who is calling on Malawians to rise against judicial officers alleging that, they are not exercising fairness when discharging their duties.
