Malawi is expected to have a state of the art private cancer centre in Blantyre to help patients who struggle to seek specialised treatment abroad.
Construction works of the International Blantyre Cancer Centre-IBCC is set to start soon, as investors await an approval from relevant authorities.
IBCC will be located in Nyambadwe, a project owned by local and foreign investors, which are yet to be revealed.
The project comes as the country records 17, 000 new cancer cases every year, with cervical cancer topping the list.
It also follows delays by the government to complete the construction of a public cancer centre in Lilongwe.
Clinical Oncologist Leo Masamba believes this will be a breakthrough in terms of cancer management in the country.
