President Dr Lazarus Chakwera is delivering the State of the Nation Address (SONA) at Parliament Building in Lilongwe.

Among key highlights, the Malawi leader has banned forthwith the importation of uniforms for government agencies.

This comes after it was discovered that some people or entity imported Malawi Police Service uniforms and were intercepted at the airport despite an earlier appeal to prioritise local buying of such items.

Many economists agree with the President’s directive saying it doesn’t make sense to drain forex on goods that can be locally produced or sourced.
