Silver Strikers controversial Head Coach, Peter De Jongh was at it again on Saturday as he charged on referee Mathews Chombo Davie and his first and second assistant, Sengani Tamandani and Maseko Hendrix respectively, accusing them of poor officiation.
De Jongh was not amused when Davie blew the final whistle, ending the Central Bankers goalless draw against the determined Chitipa United.
The visibly angry De Jongh confronted the referee but was stopped by his team officials; thanks also to the standby security personnel that escorted the officiating panel out of the Civo Stadium.
Among others, the Strikers’ mentor accused the officiation of poorly managing the game and failing to add minutes in both halves.
“The referee has robbed me of two points! This is a disgrace to Malawi football,” said De Jongh in a post-match interview.
But Chitipa United’s coach, Macdonald Mtetemera, praised his charges for a spirited performance; saying they only failed to utilize scoring opportunities they created.
Mtetemera, who was previously unceremoniously sent packing by the Bankers, said the draw was fair realizing the long distance they had covered.
“Covering a thousand kilometers is no small feat. Achieving a draw is a tremendous accomplishment; and I am immensely proud of the boys,” he added.
Chitipa United has off late gained substantial recognition in the top flight league after handing giants Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets embarrassing defeats.
