The United States Secret Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation responded to the incident near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, DC.
Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots, prompting journalists and staff on the White House grounds to take shelter. Initial reports indicate a suspect exchanged gunfire with Secret Service officers and was later pronounced dead at a hospital. A bystander was also reportedly injured.
