Malekezo Gets Mandate To Lead Nyika Media Club

Dedicated Journalists in the northern region gathered in the frosty city of Mzuzu, the commercial capital city of the northern region, for an important elective indaba to choose the new office bearers for the Nyika Media Club to lead them towards a brighter future.

The meeting took place at the Grand Palace Hotel on a chilly Saturday morning, with the echo of excited chatter filling the air as the journalists settled into their seats. Though without the outgoing committee members standing at the front, ready to hand over the reins to a new set of leaders.

Hoping to see positive change and progress in their association, after a round of introductions and speeches highlighting the achievements and shortfalls of the past terms, it was time for the elections.

The practitioners freely cast their votes filling in the positions of Secretary General (SG) and Executive Committee (Exco) members since the candidates in other positions went unopposed.

As the votes were counted, a sense of anticipation filled the room. Finally, the results were announced, and a new Secretary General, Elton Mhango and three executive committee members: George Chitaya, Tionge Hara and Wyson Chiputa Gondwe were ushered into office.

This finest moment came, cheers and applause erupted as the newly elected leaders stepped forward to take their oath.

The newly elected president, a seasoned journalist, Feston Malekezo who works for Times Media Group, northern bureau, known for his integrity and passion for the profession, gave a stirring speech outlining his vision for the coming two-year term.

Among others, Malekezo spoke of unity, collaboration, and a commitment to upholding journalistic ethics and standards in championing the process aimed at steering the operations of the journalists in the northern region.

“We have come this far together hoping to build a stronger media family, for us to achieve all that we need that unity of purpose, collaboration, and a commitment to upholding journalistic ethics and standards,” said Malekezo.

The Times Media Group regional bureau chief also challenged the rest of the committee members to bringi in their own expertise and fresh ideas to the table, ready to work together towards a common goal.

From the vice president, Alephar Kasongo to the treasurer, Sarah Saulos, the secretary, Elton Mhango and the projects manager, Bernard Mhone, the team looks determined to lead the association to new heights.

As the meeting drew to a close, the journalists left with a renewed sense of purpose and determination knowing that with this new executive committee at the helm, their association is in good hands.

“The future looks bright for journalism in the northern region, thanks for the dedication and leadership of these focused and passionate individuals,” said Owen Mwanyongo who works for Chilundu Radio in Nkhata-Bay district.
