FDH Bank donates K5 Million to QECH Neurosurgery Department ahead of 10-year anniversary

FDH Bank has made a significant contribution of K5 million to the Department of Neurosurgery at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in Blantyre, as the unit prepares to celebrate its 10-year anniversary. This donation underscores FDH Bank’s ongoing commitment to supporting the healthcare sector in Malawi, particularly in critical areas such as neurosurgery.

Levie Nkunika, the Head of Marketing at FDH Bank, emphasized the importance of the neurosurgery department, noting its vital role in providing life-saving interventions for patients suffering from complex nervous system conditions. “The department plays a crucial role in giving patients a second chance at life after suffering from complex nervous system conditions,” he stated during the donation ceremony.

Accepting the generous contribution, Dr. William Peno, the Deputy Director of QECH, highlighted the challenges the neurosurgery unit faces in handling a high volume of cases. The department manages an average of 900 cases annually, with many involving intricate brain surgeries. Dr. Peno noted that the unit has seen an increasing number of patients needing surgery due to road accidents and other critical conditions.

“This donation will help us enhance our ability to provide care for these patients,” Dr. Peno remarked, indicating that the funds would be instrumental in improving facilities and resources to meet the growing demand for neurosurgical care.
