Breaking News: Truck carrying maize catches fire near Thabwa Roadblock in Chikwawa

By Burnett Munthali

A truck transporting maize has caught fire in the hills near Thabwa Roadblock in Chikwawa District. The incident occurred earlier today, and according to our reporter on the scene, the vehicle, with registration number NU 10977, was traveling from Ntcheu to the East Bank in Chikwawa.

The driver of the truck, Anthony Chiwaya, explained that the fire started after one of the front tires burst unexpectedly, causing a chain reaction that led to the blaze.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident. However, the fire caused significant damage to the vehicle. Local villagers who live near the area managed to salvage some of the maize from the burning truck before it was completely engulfed by the flames.

Authorities are yet to arrive at the scene, and investigations into the cause of the fire are expected to follow. This incident has caused a temporary disruption along the road, but traffic is slowly returning to normal.

More updates will be provided as information becomes available.
