Minister of Sports Mkandawire urges youth to use the internet wisely for national development

By Burnett Munthali

The Minister of Sports, Uchizi Mkandawire, has called on the youth across the country to utilize modern internet technologies wisely, as a means to bring about initiatives that can contribute to national development. Mkandawire expressed disappointment over the tendency of many young people spending excessive time on unproductive social media activities.

“It is disheartening to see that many youths spend long hours on social media for entertainment, yet their activities are unproductive,” Mkandawire remarked.

He encouraged the youth to shift their focus from merely being administrators of unbeneficial social media groups to using these platforms for educational purposes that can benefit the country. “Don’t just be admins of pointless entertainment pages; find productive ways to use social media to educate others and create content that can uplift the nation, while also bringing you personal benefits,” Mkandawire advised.

Mkandawire made these remarks in Machinga during the celebration of International Youth Day, urging the youth to take advantage of the digital age to drive positive change in their communities.
