More than 30 foreign nationals, including Malawians and Zimbabweans, have been left stranded in Durban after the temporary repatriation site at the Old Drive-In was officially closed by the local municipality.

Despite the closure by the eThekwini Municipality, employers continue to drop off foreign workers at the site, leaving many without shelter, food, or transport assistance. The stranded group includes migrants who had hoped to receive assistance to return to their home countries following recent unrest and job losses in parts of South Africa.

Officials are yet to announce what alternative arrangements will be made for those still waiting at the former repatriation centre.
