Kalindo calls Banks to have toilets for customer’s use

Political activist Bon Kalindo, says while commercial Banks in Malawi are doing commendable jobs keeping money for the people, there is need for Bankers Association of Malawi (BAM) to order all banks to have responsibility of building toilets to service their customers.

Kalindo said it is so disheartening to note that Malawi banks are operating without toilets for their customers describing this as unwelcome development claiming that customers are finding their means to answer calls of nature.

He has questioned Banks what is the use of CCTV’s installed in all banks across the country and why is it impossible for the same to extend their coverage to toilets observing that in many countries, banks have toilets for their customers to use and why not Malawi?

Speaking through an audio clip, Kalindo has reminded banks that they are there because they are keeping the people’s money and without the people to keep their money in banks, banks cannot be there.

‘Banks should put the people first on top of their priorities and keeping the peoples’ money second, toilets are part of servicing their customers,” said Kalindo.

Kalindo has invited peace-loving Malawians to patronize Lilongwe Magistrate court on Monday 27th January, 2025 where Tamia Jaha is to be questioned on her statements protesting against the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) decision of procuring a machine to monitor social media news.

He said Tamia is one of the activist speaking on issues affecting Malawians in a country of democracy and as such Malawians must attend court hearing and to give support to her proving to itself that Malawians are against that machine.

The activist has accused the MCP government of prioritizing buying the said machine at K3 billion at the time that hospitals are running without medical drugs, hunger is in the midst of people as there is no maize in ADMARC depots and no fuel, among other crisis.

Kalindo has assured the police that he is ready to be arrested saying he don’t find a good reason for questioning Tamia protesting at the said machine which was already procured and was welcomed by MACRA at the Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.

“According to a South African Television station as quoted by Tamia, the machine already arrived in the country and not MACRA is deciding to procure the machine.

He has finally invited the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and Ombudsman to go to the National Statistical Office (NSO) in Zomba to investigate the contract which has been offered to one person to supply 153 vehicles for hiring describing this as a day broad light corruption.
