MultiChoice Malawi has rewarded all 45 members of the Malawi Scorchers squad with full DStv kits in recognition of the team’s historic 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign and qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The gesture comes after the Scorchers produced one of the most memorable campaigns in the history of Malawian women’s football, finishing as runners-up at the continental tournament and securing Malawi’s place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
In a statement, MultiChoice Malawi said each member of the 45-person squad has received a complete DStv package comprising a DStv decoder, satellite dish and a one-month DStv Compact subscription.
The company said the reward is aimed at recognising the players and members of the squad for their commitment, determination and contribution to national pride.
Acting Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Malawi, Lunia Mauku Bandawe, said the Scorchers had demonstrated what could be achieved through teamwork, determination and belief.
“The Malawi Scorchers have shown the country what is possible through determination, teamwork and belief,” Bandawe said.
She added that the team’s success extends beyond football, saying the players have provided an important source of inspiration for young girls across Malawi.
According to Bandawe, the Scorchers’ achievements could encourage more girls to participate in sport, develop their talents and pursue their ambitions with confidence.
The recognition follows a landmark 2026 WAFCON campaign in which Malawi established itself among Africa’s leading women’s football teams.
The Scorchers’ run to the WAFCON final not only delivered a historic continental finish but also secured the team’s qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, giving Malawi an opportunity to compete on the global stage.
The achievement has generated widespread national pride, with the team receiving recognition and support from government, businesses and other stakeholders.
For the players, the MultiChoice Malawi reward represents another acknowledgement of the hard work behind their historic campaign. The DStv packages will also allow the squad members to follow football and other sporting content from home.
More importantly, the gesture highlights the growing role of corporate institutions in supporting Malawi’s sporting development.
The Scorchers’ success has also renewed discussions about investment in women’s football, particularly the need to provide young female players with opportunities, facilities, competitions and financial support to develop their careers.
With Malawi now preparing for its historic appearance at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the success of the Scorchers is expected to inspire a new generation of female footballers.
The team’s WAFCON performance has already demonstrated that Malawian women can compete at the highest level of African football, while the World Cup qualification provides another major platform to showcase the country’s talent internationally.
MultiChoice Malawi’s latest gesture therefore goes beyond rewarding the players for a successful tournament. It also underlines the potential of sport to inspire young people, promote national unity and create opportunities for the next generation.
For the Scorchers, the historic WAFCON campaign may be over, but the journey has now entered an even bigger chapter as Malawi looks ahead to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
