Masters FC head coach Peter Mponda has praised his players for their impressive display against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, insisting that the team deserved a better result despite suffering a 2-1 defeat in Sunday’s FDH Premiership encounter at Bingu National Stadium.

Mponda expressed satisfaction with Masters’ overall performance, saying his players showed determination, discipline and attacking intent, although their efforts were not rewarded with points.

The coach admitted that the result was disappointing but maintained that the team’s performance provided encouraging signs as they continue their league campaign.

“I’m very happy with the performance, disappointed with the result. The way we played today, I feel that we deserved something from this game,” said Mponda.

Masters showed resilience after falling behind through Clever Kalambo, with Frank Sanudi restoring parity in first-half stoppage time.

Sanudi completed the move after receiving a pass from Hastings Ndau, giving Masters renewed hope of collecting points against the former league champions.

However, Bullets eventually secured all three points when Misheck Billiat scored the decisive goal in the 62nd minute, leaving Masters frustrated despite a competitive performance.

Mponda also singled out striker Hassan Kajoke for recognition, praising his movement, attacking threat and contribution to the team’s defensive work.

Although Kajoke missed two clear scoring opportunities, the coach believes his overall involvement was encouraging and that his ability to trouble the opposition defence remains an important asset for Masters.

The defeat comes at a challenging period for Masters as they seek to improve their points collection in the second round of the FDH Premiership.

However, Mponda wants his players to remain confident and use the performance against Bullets as a foundation for improvement rather than allowing the defeat to affect their morale.

For Masters, the immediate challenge will be turning encouraging performances into positive results as the race for valuable league points continues.
